Phd Induction...

Had a nice meet and greet with the rest of the first year PhD students here at Edinburgh.  Also had my first meeting with my supervisor Ed Hopkins today...I found out that he was supervised by Alan Kirman!  Fantastic...that makes Alan Kirman my intellectual grandfather (so to speak)...

Didn't get a chance to talk much about my research agenda, but we will meet again in a few days time to discuss how I plan to move ahead over the next year.  I am now thinking that I will go heavy on the empirical work over the next year (with maybe a little of my own theory sprinkled throughout)...
